Trainer Profile

Jarrod McLean

Jarrod McLean has lived all of his life on his parents property where his stables are situated at Yangery, on the outskirts of Warrnambool, Victoria.

Jarrod has been involved with horses from a very young age. He started off as a member of the local Pony Clubs then went on to successfully compete in Show Jumping events throughout the district. He was also a member of the Boggy Creek Hunt Club with the highlight of his time there training and riding the winner of  their Annual Point to Point Steeplechase on "Play The Pokies".

His first experience with race horses was gained  whilst working for a local horse trainer as a strapper and track rider in his early teens.  His life passion was to eventually obtain his own trainers licence and to train race horses.

When Jarrod successfully completed Year 12 at school, he commenced an apprenticeship as a Chef at a Warrnambool Hotel. With the hours of work required, he was able to combine his cooking with horse training. Jarrod was only 18 years-old when he was granted his Owner/Trainer Licence.  He quickly met the criteria to upgrade  this restricted licence to a  full Trainers Licence. After becoming a qualified Chef, he was able to retire from this occupation to concentrate on training full time.

Jarrod has had many memorable moments in his training career, the most memorable would be the performances of Cargo Cult, Kibbutz, Juggle The Books, Netra and Nicastro, and not forgetting the Jumps racing which he is so passionate about with great rides by his brother Brad on horses he trained such as Greenlaw, Stealth Knight, Loanshark and Suspense.

Jarrod enjoys what he does and has worked extremely hard to get his business where it is today.

Jarrod consistently has around 20 horses in work enabling him to maintain a hands-on approach.  Jarrod's attention to detail matched with his drive and competitive spirit are his key ingredients for success.
